Arrival FAQ

We are pleased to share some frequently asked questions about arriving at Saint Peter’s University for the first time.  If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to your International Student Director.

Q: Where is Saint Peter’s University? What is the nearest airport?

A: Saint Peter’s University is located in Jersey City, NJ, west of New York City across the Hudson River. The nearest airport from the University is Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Saint Peter’s is also accessible from other airports around New York City including JFK.  The main address for the Jersey City campus is 2641 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ 07306.

Q: What are the options to get to the campus?

A: Public transit is an option, but it involves a few transfers and is not advisable when arriving with heavy luggage. The best option is to take a taxi from the arrival airport to Saint Peter’s. Our campus is approximately 10 miles from EWR and around 25 miles from JFK.

Q: Are on-campus jobs available for International Students? Where can I work?

A: Yes, on-campus jobs are available but not guaranteed. All students can apply for an on-campus job. Some departments where international students have found work include the Library, tutoring center, Mac Mahon Student Center, Recreational Life Center, and the Admission Office.

Q: When and how do I make my first payment towards my University bill?

A: Bank wire transfers are the best payment option for most international students. Payments can also be made in Spirit online or upon arrival at the Enrollment Services Center, located on the first floor of McDermott Hall. We also accept checks, money order and credit card payments (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover).

Q: How do I open a bank account?

A: There are many banks located close to campus, including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Santander. You can select the bank of your choice to open an account. Most large banks offer a student account option, which includes a free debit card and no monthly fee.

Q: How do I get a social security number?

A: Please refer to our Social Security instructions for guidance.

Q: How do I get a cell phone?

A: Cell phone providers Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and MetroPCS all have stores conveniently located near campus. While most US cell phone plans require a social security number, all companies offer prepaid plan options for international students without a social security number.
