Residence Life

FAQs

What do I need to do in order to participate in Room Selection?
You must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student and complete your Housing Application by the room selection deadline. Take care of any outstanding bills or holds & be fully registered for classes for the Fall semester prior to the start of room selection.

What if I have class and cannot make the time scheduled for my Room Selection appointment?
If you are in a roommate group, your group leader will assign you to a space. If you are not in a roommate group, please log in and select a space before the end of Room Selection online.

What if a vacancy occurs in my room/apartment during the summer?
If a vacancy occurs in your room during the summer, the Office of Residence Life will assign you a roommate. You will be notified if you receive a new roommate via university email.

Can I buy out my room or live by myself if I pay extra?
We are only able to offer this upfront for East Campus rooms, as we must ensure all students wishing to live on campus are able to do so. We can reevaluate this as an option for West Campus apartments once we are able to determine that we will have unfilled vacancies.

May a student sign up for more than one room?
No, this is not possible.

I want a commuter student to room with me. What do I do?
Commuter students will be allowed to participate in Room Selection but will only be able to request other current commuter students as a roommate. However, you may contact Residence Life via email at reslfie@saintpeters.edu to submit your request and we will manually place you together.

I missed the Room Selection Process but still wish to select a room, what should I do?
Students who wish to live on campus after the Room Selection process is completed will still be able to live on campus. Please submit a Housing Application online and a $250.00 housing deposit. Once we receive these two items, we will place you in a vacant spot once they become available. You will be contacted via Saint Peter’s University email once you are assigned.

What if I’m graduating and returning as a graduate student?
Those on the May Graduation List are not eligible for Room Selection. If you are interested in living on campus as a graduate student, please submit the Graduate/Doctorate Student Housing Application to get assigned a room.

Do I have to have a meal plan?
All resident students are required to have a meal plan. Saint Peter Hall residents may only choose from the East Campus Meal Plans. West Campus residents may select from any meal plan, but at minimum must have the 4-Plan. Students with special dietary needs are advised to speak with the Director of Dining Services. If you do not select a meal plan, you will be automatically assigned the Platinum Meal Plan.

Do I need a roommate in order to pick a room?
No, but this means that any student may be placed to live with you. We encourage all residents to find roommates prior to Room Selection to reduce potential conflicts for the Fall semester. If you need to identify a roommate, we encourage you to browse profiles in the roommate portal of Symplicity. In addition, we recommend you connect with your Community Director to help identify other possible roommate options. Please attend room selection regardless of if you have identified a roommate, prior to room selection.

What if I have a hold on my account?
Any student who has a hold, outstanding balance, or overdue student conduct sanction will not be allowed to participate in the Room Selection process until the hold is lifted.

What will be the housing costs for next year?
Although Fall Housing rates have not yet been determined, it is expected to increase by 2-5% from this current year’s rate. This will be confirmed later this Spring.

What if my desired roommate is studying abroad this semester?
The student who is studying abroad or away on internship must follow the same steps as all students and complete the Housing application online and will have the ability to participate in Room Selection online.

What if I am a current Saint Peter’s University student who will be participating in a Study Abroad program or registered internship with the University and I do not want housing for Fall, BUT will need housing for Spring? What do I do?
You do not participate in the Room Selection process. However, you must submit your Spring Housing Application to the Office of Residence Life before the end of the Fall semester. You will be placed in available/empty spaces prior to the Spring semester. You will be contacted via Saint Peter’s University email once you are assigned housing.

If I am no longer interested in housing for Fall after I have completed the Room Selection process, what do I need to do?
You will need to withdraw from housing by contacting Office of Residence Life via email at reslife@saintpeters.edu. If you do not formally withdraw from housing, you will be charged housing fees for the Fall semester. If you participate in the Room Selection process and withdraw from housing, your housing deposit will not be returned.

What happens if I turn in my Room Selection Application late?
You will not be able to participate in Room Selection as all start times will be issued on the date the application is due. However, you may select from available spaces once Room Selection has ended.

How do I know which rooms are being offered during room selection?
You will be able to review Room and Apartment availability in Symplicity one week prior to the first day Room Selection begins online. Floor plans and apartment descriptions are also notated for each space.
