FERPA for Students

Saint Peter’s University is committed to the protection and confidentiality of student education records, adhering closely to the guidelines established by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law designed to protect the privacy of education records, to establish the right of students to inspect and review their education records, and to provide guidelines for how this information can be released.

Designate a Proxy Access to Your Academic Record

If you wish to waive your rights under FERPA and grant permission for Saint Peters University to release academic information upon receipt of a written request or verification of photo identification (for in-person requests) please submit a “FERPA Consent to Release Student Information” to the University Registrar.

Withhold the Release of All Student Information
In accordance with FERPA, the University does not release student record information without prior written consent except where permitted by law. FERPA allows for the release of “directory information” items without prior student consent. If you wish to keep your student directory information private please consider the consequences. Executing the “FERPA Request to Withhold Student Information“ will suppress your information in printed form (i.e. Commencement Program, Dean’s List, etc.) and will make information unavailable to prospective employers, insurance companies and others to whom you may want this information known or verified. The University assumes no liability for honoring your instructions that such information be withheld.

Letter of Recommendation
Written permission from the student is required for a letter of recommendation if any information included in the recommendation is part of the “education record” (grades, GPA, and other non-directory information). If you wish to authorize a letter of recommendation in which educational records may be referenced submit a “Ferpa Release: Letter of Recommendation” to the University Registrar.
