Maria del Cielo Mendez ’22 awarded Lupe Fund’s 2020 Young Latina Leadership Scholarship

The Honors Program extends a heartfelt congratulations to junior Maria del Cielo Mendez, who has been awarded the Lupe Fund’s 2020 Young Latina Leadership Scholarship. The Lupe Fund’s goal is to support emerging Latina leaders in New Jersey. Maria certainly is a leader in the Saint Peter’s University community. She is a Political Science and Communications & Media Culture double major with a minor in Marketing Management. In addition to being an Honors research assistant for The Center for Undocumented Students, she is vice president of the Student Government Association (SGA) and president of RAIIS (Reaching after Immigrant Intellect and Success) at the university and is active in community service.

LUPE Fund, Inc. is a 501c3 organization whose mission is to Educate, Empower, and Engage Latinas to Promote Leadership and Civic Engagement. Our goals are to promote an increase of Latinas in civic leadership locally and statewide and to collaborate with other women’s and children’s organizations on issues of common interest such as health and education in order to advance the Latino community. We provide educational programs, networking opportunities and mentorship to place more Latinas in the leadership pipeline.
