Digital Humanities courses added for fall 2020

The History Department is offering two new electives based in the Digital Humanities. The first, HS-440 Special Topics in Public History, is being offered for registration now for fall 2020. If you are interested and have completed your History core requirements, be sure to register using Student Planning!

HS-440 Special Topics in Public History

Between academic history (what happened and why did it happen?) and popular history (what do people tend to believe and what do they tend to enjoy?) is the field of public history, where historians are concerned with making the study of the past accessible. In this course, students will visit museums, historic sites, and archives, as well as examine documentary film and historical movies in order to learn the skills and discipline of public history.

Do you enjoy museums and/or documentary films? Now open for fall 2020 registration! HS-440 Special Topics in Public History, Wednesday at 1-4pm, with Dr. Johnson. Learn film-making, archival research, oral history and interview skills. Use new video and audio recording equipment and editing software. Create a documentary film exploring the Civil Rights history of Saint Peter's University and Jersey City's African American community. Plus there are paid internship opportunities! Internship opportunities and courses are open to all students. For more information contact jjohnson5@saintpeters.edu. And coming soon for spring 2021, HS-371 Making Documentary Films with Dr. DeGruccio. Funding for these courses is provided by The COuncil of Independent Colleges.
