Facilities & Resources

Our Department has an excellent library of American, British and World Literature. Our conference room is a frequent meeting place for faculty and students.

The English Club

Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society. A member of the Association of College Honor Societies, it was founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University. There are over 750 Chapters located in Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States. Saint Peter’s University has had a Chapter of the Society since 1987.

The Hopkins Scholar Program offers students the opportunity to work individually under the direction of a faculty member on a special project. In a two-semester sequence (6 credits), typically as part of the Honors Program, students are introduced to the methods of research and become acquainted with the background material for their research projects. This enrichment of the English curriculum is continued as the Hopkins Scholar undertakes an independent research project and produces a senior thesis. Participants must have a 3.0 average in English courses.

The Writer’s Edge is a biannual compilation of noteworthy essays from our introductory Composition courses. Selection, which is at the discretion of the English Department faculty, is based on creativity and composition. Student authors who have work appearing in this publication will be recognized at Michaelmas, the University’s student award ceremony
