Marcelo Munoz ’22 & team win JPMorgan Chase & Co. Code for Good Hackathon

Congratulations to Computer Science major Marcelo Munoz ’22 and his team of fellow national computer science students, who recently won recognition in the JPMorgan Chase & Co. “Code for Good” hackathon.

The hackathon consisted of 19 teams, with team members made up with students from around the country. Each team was assigned tasks working with one of four real-life non-profit organizations facing troubles with technology. They had 24 hours to create software to help the organization solve their problems.

Marcelo and his team worked for American Financial Solutions, an organization which provides free online personal finance courses and financial counseling for people struggling with debt. Marcelo was responsible for creating the organization’s new landing page; his work is now the online face of American Financial Solutions! The team also created a new series of interactive courses, a helpful chatbot to answer site visitors’ questions, and more secure and visually appealing customer information forms. Marcelo said he and his team were so excited to help create the new website that, “Like most teams, we had to stay up overnight just to have enough time to finish the whole thing.”
