Graduate Students Gain Professional Experience in Verisk Analytics Competition

Graduate students from the data science program recently participated in a competition, which was judged by members of the Verisk Analytics staff – Nigel DeFreitas, chief technology officer; Dr. Shane De Zilwa, vice president of analytics; and Vasudev Daruvuri, analytical scientist. During the competition, students were tasked with mining insurance fraud reports and identifying the criminals from a collection of 1,700 news reports. The students’ submissions are currently being reviewed by the Verisk Analytics representatives, and a winner will be announced soon.
