Program Components

Designation as a Leadership Fellow requires earning at least 30 points in both academic experiential components. The academic components can include both selected course work and research projects. The experiential component can include community service, leadership experiences, attendance at special events and service learning projects. Points are awarded as follows:

Academic (2 required)

*Courses (5 points each)
BA-282 Leadership
BA-330 Negotiation and Conflict Resolution
PL-151 Logic
PL-200 Rhetoric, Speech and Argument
PL-490 Ethical Leadership
CJ-285 Leadership for Criminal Justice
*Research Project – student research assistance in a faculty research project focused on some   aspect of leadership (4 points)

Experiential (3 required)

*Plan, organize and conduct a Community Service Project – 10 points

*Service Learning – completion of an officially designated service learning course in any department – 5 points

*Leadership Experiences:

  • Induction into National Society of Leadership and Success – 5 points
  • Coaching and mentorship – 5 points
  • Captain of Varsity or Intramural sport – 3 points
  • President of club – 3 points
  • Officer of club – 2 points
  • Event Attendance (CLEW, Guarini Institute or Center for Leadership Studies sponsored) – 2 points each
