Two Saint Peter’s University students, Genesis Serpas ’27 and Karina Ramirez ’27, have received awards for their research grant proposals from the Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey (ICUNJ) Association.
Both students have been selected to present the results of their research at the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 7, 2027, at Bell Works in Holmdel, New Jersey. Their research is being conducted under the guidance of Laura Twersky, Ph.D., of the Department of Biology at Saint Peter’s University.
Serpas is conducting research on the effects of metronidazole, amoxicillin, cotrimoxazole and ciprofloxacin, both individually and in combination, on the regeneration rate and development of planaria (Dugesia tigrina). Her research is supported by a Schering-Plough Undergraduate Research Endeavors Endowed Scholarship.
Ramirez is researching the effects of bisphenol A on memory in the great pond snail (Lymnaea stagnalis). In addition to her research award, Ramirez received a Novartis Science Scholarship.
The recognition highlights the students’ academic achievements and their ongoing contributions to undergraduate research at Saint Peter’s University.
