Saint Peter’s Dr. Michael Finetti Explores the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education

Faculty presentation at NYU examines the opportunities and challenges of AI in academia

Michael Finetti, Ph.D., of Saint Peter’s University presented at the Faculty Resource Network (FRN) Summer Seminar, held on the New York University campus. The presentation, titled “The Push & Pull of Artificial Intelligence by Higher Education Faculty,” explored the growing opportunities and challenges surrounding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education.

The discussion examined how faculty members are increasingly encouraged to incorporate AI into their teaching, research and professional responsibilities while also navigating concerns surrounding responsible use, academic standards, institutional expectations and the changing nature of faculty work.

Dr. Finetti also highlighted the importance of developing a thoughtful and balanced approach to AI adoption. Rather than viewing artificial intelligence solely as an emerging threat or a technological solution, the presentation emphasized how faculty and institutions can consider integrating AI in ways that support educational goals while maintaining academic quality, professional judgment and institutional values.

The presentation contributed to ongoing conversations about the evolving role of artificial intelligence in higher education and the importance of balancing innovation with the responsibilities of teaching and learning.
