Jersey City, N.J. – December 4, 2023 – Saint Peter’s University today announced that its total enrollment for the 2023-24 academic year has reached a 25-year high. The student body includes 3,673 undergraduate and graduate students, a seven percent increase over the previous year.
The University welcomed 769 new undergraduates (453 first-year students and 316 transfer students), contributing to a total enrollment of 2,101 undergraduate students in more than fifty programs of study. At the graduate level 397 new students joined Saint Peter’s for a total enrollment of 1,572 students in twenty master’s and doctoral programs in the humanities, science, business, data science, education and nursing fields.
Several factors contributed to the enrollment growth. “This was our first post-pandemic year for admissions where prospective students were able to have a full campus visit experience, and we were also able to engage with high schools in a way that we would have done pre-pandemic, which certainly had a positive effect,” said Jeffrey Gant, vice president for enrollment management at Saint Peter’s University. “We believe the Peacocks men’s basketball team’s run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Championship in 2022 also has had a reputational impact on this past year and the Class of 2027.” Also, the record enrollment reflects the University’s commitment to offering an affordable education and its expanded graduate offerings that serve students seeking to continue their education.
The first-year and transfer student body continues to exhibit key attributes consistent with previous Peacock classes. They hail from 23 states and 18 countries and represent the great diversity of the region. Approximately 50 percent are first generation in their family to attend college and 94 percent receive financial aid. Hispanic students make up 51 percent of the new first-year students, a testament to the welcoming environment and to this year’s campus celebration of the 25th anniversary of Saint Peter’s University as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
