Saint Peter’s University to Host Esports Business Symposium

Jersey City, N.J. – March 15, 2019 – Saint Peter’s University will host an Esports Business Symposium on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. in Pope Lecture Hall following the University’s Spring Open House. The Symposium will feature Marc Williams, Ed.D., managing partner of WD | Esports + Entertainment, as moderator of three panels of industry experts. The panelists will discuss careers in this multi-million dollar industry and the value of an Esports business degree.

Esports refers to competitive, organized video gaming, which has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in the sports and entertainment industries globally. The event will include three panel discussions on: (1) The Esports Ecosystem and Opportunities, (2) Women and Gaming, and (3) Esports and Education. Panelists include Ashley DeWalt of WD | Esports + Entertainment; Neil Duffy, vice president of Collegiate StarLeague; and Keisha Howard, CEO of Sugar Gamers.

Saint Peter’s University was among the first in the nation to offer an Esports business degree specialization. Students enrolled in the Esports program will be immersed in the culture of Esports while gaining skills in planning and strategy, event management, business development, marketing and finance. Careers in Esports include content creators, producers, marketers, product managers, accountants, lawyers and a host of other experts who work for game companies. The University has partnered with world-class experts for courses, internships and networking opportunities that will give students an edge in the field.

In addition to the Esports business degree specialization, the Office of Wellness and Recreation at Saint Peter’s launched an Esports intramural program in spring 2018 and established the University’s membership in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). The fall 2018 season was a highly successful one as two teams qualified for post-season play with one team advancing to the playoff semi-finals. Attendees of the Spring Open House and/or Esports Business Symposium will have the opportunity to meet the team at noon on the fifth floor of the Mac Mahon Student Center.
