Jersey City, N.J. – August 2, 2017 – Saint Peter’s University today announced that Frederick Bonato, Ph.D., has been appointed to the position of provost and vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Bonato most recently served as the associate provost for academic affairs at Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J., where he provided oversight for academic personnel procedures for more than 600 full-time faculty and assisted and advised on policy issues related to personnel matters, staffing and enrollment patterns.
“Dr. Bonato previously served Saint Peter’s for 17 years in a variety of roles and we are fortunate to welcome him back to the University,” said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s University. “He brings a wealth of experience as an educator to our institution and is poised to help lead Saint Peter’s academic efforts to new levels.”
During his tenure at Montclair State University, Dr. Bonato had numerous accomplishments, including, co-leading a project for the creation of the School of Nursing. He also provided leadership for the development of the 25,000 square foot Center for Clinical Services that opened in January 2016. In addition, Dr. Bonato oversaw the modernization of electronic systems for the Institutional Review Board, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and Career Services. He also chaired the task force that resulted in the Carnegie Foundation classification as a Community Engaged Institution in 2015 as well as initiated the transition of the Office of Service Learning to the Center for Community Engagement, which now receives approximately 1 million dollars a year in external funding.
During his time at Saint Peter’s, Dr. Bonato served as a faculty member, director of faculty research and sponsored program, senate president and chair of the psychology department. Prior to that, he was an assistant professor at Upsala College. “Saint Peter’s is an institution that is unparalleled in its commitment to total student success,” said Bonato. “Serving this outstanding University as provost and vice-president for academic affairs is an honor and a profound responsibility. Dr. Bonato is the immediate past-president of the Eastern Psychological Association and is the editor-in-chief of Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance, the official journal of the Aerospace Medical Association. He has published widely on aeromedical topics such as motion sickness, space motion sickness, and commercial spaceflight. Dr. Bonato is a fellow of the Eastern Psychological Association and the Aerospace Medical Association and in 2015 was nominated and elected to the International Academy for Aviation and Space Medicine. He earned his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University.
