Scott Torre Appointed Director of Campus Safety at Saint Peter’s University

Jersey City, N.J. – January 6, 2014 – Scott Torre has been appointed director of campus safety for Saint Peter’s University. Torre previously served as the deputy chief of police in New Providence, N.J. for more than 30 years and has a wealth of experience that will enable him to effectively serve the University in his new role.

“Following an extensive search for a new director of campus safety, we are very pleased to welcome Scott to the University community given his impressive set of credentials, which make him the ideal candidate for the position,” said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s University. “We look forward to working with Scott to further strengthen our campus safety department and to make the University a safer, more secure environment in which to live, learn, teach and work.”

Torre, who has trained with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has experience with developing one of the most comprehensive school security protocols, including lockdown and evacuation procedures. He has also initiated and managed many community policing programs that help to prevent drug crime and drug abuse, protect vulnerable populations and develop relationships between police and youth.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Saint Leo University and he went on to earn a master’s degree in administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He also has certifications in incident management, terrorism response and infrastructure protection.

The campus safety department is responsible for the security, safety and asset protection at Saint Peter’s. The department functions with a proactive approach to prevent incidents from occurring. The mission of the department includes the protection of life and property, the maintenance of a safe environment for the campus community, prevention of vandalism and theft, detecting safety hazards, enforcement of rules and regulations, emergency response and oversight of parking facilities.
