New Date Announced: Co-Founder of Facebook, Chris Hughes, to Serve as Keynote Speaker for Annual Symposium

Jersey City, N.J. – Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook, will serve as the keynote speaker for the Saint Peter’s University 41st Annual Regents Business Symposium on Friday, December 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson. Hughes will be addressing this year’s theme, Social Business: It’s More Than Just Facebook. The Symposium is one of New Jersey’s longest-running forums designed to inspire and educate an audience of all ages, professions and industries regarding business trends, challenges and best practices.

With the advent of social media, the very nature in which individuals and organizations communicate has fundamentally changed. Hughes will explore this concept along with a panel of experts from diverse backgrounds. Panelists include Elissa J. Glasband, partner of Patton Boggs LLP; David Meerman Scott, marketing and leadership strategist; and JJ Ramberg, host of MSNBC’s Your Business and co-founder of GoodSearch.com.

Doug Palmer, principal and leader of social media and collaboration practice at Deloitte Consulting LLP, will also speak and Ernabel Demillo, professor of journalism at Saint Peter’s University and former Good Day New York anchor, will serve as the moderator. Each of these world-class business leaders will discuss the rapidly evolving phenomenon of social business through various lenses.

Hughes, a leading voice on the future of media, currently serves as the editor-in-chief and publisher of The New Republic, a renowned American magazine of politics and culture. He began his career as a developer and entrepreneur of new media in 2004, when he co-founded Facebook with his Harvard roommates and served first as the site’s spokesperson, then as leader of its product and user experience team. In 2007, he became director of online organizing for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, where his success-generating grassroots support revolutionized the use of the Web as a political tool. Hughes helped President Obama raise more than $500 million online from over two million donations.

Hughes is also an independent investor in technology and media companies, a member of the UNAIDS High-Level Commission on HIV Prevention, and a trustee of the Knight Foundation. He is a graduate of Harvard University.

Glasband concentrates on the areas of complex civil litigation at Patton Boggs LLP where she is a partner. Glasband has participated in the defense of a variety of product liability matters and complex class-action litigation. She also advises clients on electronic discovery matters and has extensive experience counseling clients on record retention compliance policies and procedures. Before arriving at Patton Boggs, Glasband was an associate at one of Am Law’s five largest U.S. law firms.

Meerman Scott is a marketing strategist, advisor to emerging companies, best-selling author of eight books including three international best-sellers and a professional speaker on topics including marketing, leadership and social media. He served as a marketing vice president for two U.S. publicly traded companies and was the Asia marketing director for Knight-Ridder.

Ramberg currently serves as the host of MSNBC’s Your Business, one of the longest-running television shows dedicated to issues affecting small business owners. In addition to hosting the program, Ramberg is co-founder of GoodSearch.com, a search engine that donates 50 percent of revenue to the non-profit organizations and schools of the user’s choice. Ramberg is also a regular contributor to the TODAY Show and is a financial columnist for Cookie Magazine.

Palmer is a principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP and leads the social media and collaboration practice, which is responsible for consulting on social media, collaboration, innovation and organizational change. He is developing a portfolio of work in the area of “emerging trends” that examines the impact of key trends in technology, business and society with a focus on how the trends are likely to impact the way people work, both individually and within the larger organization. Palmer has a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, his master’s in engineering management and doctorate in human resource development, both from the George Washington University.
