Students, Faculty and Staff Celebrate Alpha Sigma Nu Induction Ceremony

On January 25, Saint Peter’s College hosted an induction ceremony for students, staff and faculty, who were selected for Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society. The inductees are individuals who have distinguished themselves academically and by their loyalty to the ideals of a Jesuit education. The event was held in Saint Peter Chapel with a Mass, which was followed by a dinner and induction ceremony in McIntyre Lounge. Faculty, staff, family and friends joined in the induction festivities.

Alpha Sigma Nu was founded in 1915 to honor a select number of students each year on the basis of scholarship, loyalty and service. Selection to Alpha Sigma Nu is one of the highest honors that can be given on a Jesuit campus and eligibility is open to juniors, seniors and graduate students who are in the top 15 percent of their class academically and have demonstrated a record of service and loyalty to the Jesuit ideals of education.

“Being inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu at Saint Peter’s College grants me the privilege to join a group of dedicated, hardworking and passionate students who not only strive for academic success, but also to better the community around them,” said Joseph Brzyski ’12, an economics major at the College. “The ceremony will always remain a highlight in my life because I received the opportunity to not only meet with other great members of Alpha Sigma Nu, but faculty of Saint Peter’s College who share the same core principles as well.”

Brzyski is one of the eleven students inducted into the honor society this year. Additional student inductees are Michael G. Marmora ’13, Katelynn Daly ’13, Karla Mendez ’13, Kimberley Feldman ’14, Taofik Oladipupo ’13, Bernadette Lamey ’13, Alessandra Grazia Santamaria ’13, Jamie Lisanti ’13, Amanda J. Maldonado ’13 and Yanitsa Toneva ’13. Additionally, Jerry Gillan, Ph.D., associate professor of history, and Mary Sue Callan-Farley, director of Campus Ministry, were also inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu for their contributions to the College and their commitment to the values of a Jesuit education.

Induction into the Alpha Sigma Nu honor society provides students with a multitude of privileges. The ability to simply list the honor society on a resume provides a tangible sign of one’s success. Additionally, all members will enjoy a lifetime membership in the Society and may participate in the activities of any Alumni Club. The interaction among this strong alumni network can allow students to advance their professional careers and also opens up the possibility for scholarships and job opportunities.

Congratulations to all of the 2011 – 2012 inductees!
