Questions for On-going Assessment

Using Assessment Data to Improve Student Learning

Here are some questions that might spark the imagination of faculty and aid them in an on-going consideration of assessment.
Faculty may want to update the department’s plan periodically by inserting new paragraphs into the existing report, and adding new pages that answer these questions.

  • Has your department added new courses? Which ones? Why?
  • Has your faculty added new skills or performed more research? What? Why?
  • Have there been any curriculum changes in the department? What? Why?
  • Have there been any innovations in teaching methods? How did they come about?
  • Do your students have any new needs that you can perceive? How are you handling their needs?
  • Have you begun using any new tools to assess your students – electronic tests, portfolios, group projects, etc.
