Why did you initially decide to become a Peacock?
I chose Saint Peter’s University because I immediately felt welcomed by its diverse community and the many opportunities available to students. I came to college wanting to make a meaningful impact and take full advantage of every opportunity presented to me, and Saint Peter’s offered exactly that. Being on a diverse campus, especially within my field of study, made me feel comfortable and confident that this was a place where I could grow both academically and personally.
What is your major at SPU? Is that what you thought you would major in coming out of high school?
I am a health science major with a minor in psychology. Truth be told, coming out of high school I was not entirely sure what I wanted to study, but I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. Choosing health science has given me a broad academic foundation while also helping me complete many of the prerequisite courses required for graduate school. Along with my psychology minor, my studies have allowed me to explore different aspects of healthcare and better understand the direction I want to take in the future.
Congratulations on being elected Student Government Association (SGA) president! How do you plan to make this role your own and what goals do you have for your presidency?
Thank you! I am very honored to serve as the SGA president. I want students to feel comfortable sharing their ideas and concerns. More importantly, I want them to see that their inputs lead to meaningful results. One of my main goals for this year is to shine the light upon student leaders, especially those that haven’t discovered their voice, to help them build on a sense of leadership and welcome them into a community that is not only important, but life changing.
What made you decide to run for president and get involved in a leadership role on campus?
Being a part of student government as vice president opened my eyes to the importance of SGA at SPU. I got to see firsthand how much impact student leaders can have in representing the student body. That experience inspired me to run for president because I wanted to continue building on the work we started and take a greater responsibility in serving the community. I wanted the opportunity to give back to a university that has provided me with so many opportunities and to help make the student experience even better for future students.
As a senior this year, is there anything you are excited about as your time at Saint Peter’s draws to a close?
As a senior this year, I am most excited for the senior events and memories that are yet to be made. I am also looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments of everyone in my graduating class and seeing all that we have achieved during our time at Saint Peter’s University. It is exciting to reflect on how far we have come and to share these final moments together before beginning the next chapter of our lives.
What advice do you have for any incoming freshman or new students at Saint Peter’s?
My one piece of advice for the incoming students is to make the most of your college experience. There will be times when you feel lost or uncertain about what the future holds, and moments when you have to decide whether to take a leap of faith. My advice is to take that leap. College is a time to step outside of your comfort zone, explore new opportunities, and discover what you are capable of. Whether it is joining an organization, pursuing a leadership role, or trying something completely new, the risks you take often lead to the most rewarding experiences. By the time you look back, you will realize that those chances and decisions played a major role in shaping who you have become.
