Saint Peter’s at the 9th Teachers’ Meeting in Michoacán, Mexico

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – While attending the 9th Teacher Meeting of the “Together for Michoacán Network” in Michoacán, Mexico, Saint Peter’s University President Hubert Benítez, D.D.S, Ph.D., outlined a broad plan for academic collaboration for higher education institutions in the state under the intent to integrate cultures, countries and students from a global mission with a focus on values.

The proposal includes joint programs, academic and cultural immersion programs, collaborative research, dual degrees, micro-credentials, certifications, diplomas, master’s degrees and doctorates. The model would be designed individually for each institution, based on its demographic profile and specific needs. Dr. Benítez argued that while higher education today uncertainty, social crises and polarization, he proposes an education centered on values, justice and critical thinking as the cornerstone for social transformation.

“Education is the path to change,” he stressed, noting that the responsibility of teachers is not limited to transmitting knowledge, but to forming generations capable of offering solutions on a global platform.

The 9th Teacher Meeting has brought together more than 13,000 teachers over its lifetime, with participation by more than 60 institutions and a presence in more than 110 municipalities in Michoacán.

This year’s meeting saw over 2,000 registered participants from 18 nationalities, under the motto “Educating in uncertain times, building awareness, hope and resilience.” During the inauguration, the state’s Director of Professions, Carlos Ernesto García Pérez, representing the Secretary of Education, Gabriela Molina, highlighted that the meeting has become a state benchmark for teacher training and the building of collaborative networks.
