Saint Peter’s University President Dr. Hubert Benitez Signs Agreements at New Jersey Governor’s Economic Mission to Mexico

The academic agreements aim to strengthen educational and cultural partnerships between New Jersey and Mexico

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Peter’s University President Dr. Hubert Benitez participated in the New Jersey Governor’s Economic Mission Trip to Mexico from November 5–9, 2025, as part of a distinguished delegation organized and sponsored by Choose New Jersey, in collaboration with the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ).

The mission sought to deepen economic, educational, and cultural partnerships between New Jersey and Mexico, with a focus on fostering collaboration in higher education, business innovation, and workforce development.

As a highlight of the trip, Saint Peter’s University signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with Universidad La Salle Morelia and Universidad Latina de América (UNLA) — two of the most respected higher education institutions in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico.

These strategic partnerships open new doors for the creation of educational pathways for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as the exploration of co-curricular development such as bridge and dual/joint degree programming. The agreements also encourage faculty exchanges for teaching and research collaborations and promote intercultural immersion opportunities that strengthen understanding between students and educators in both nations.

Saint Peter’s University is honored to build new relationships with Universidad La Salle Morelia and Universidad Latina de América,” said Dr. Hubert Benitez, President of Saint Peter’s University. “These partnerships will provide transformative opportunities for our students and faculty—fostering global learning, academic collaboration, and cultural understanding between New Jersey and Mexico.”

Universidad La Salle Morelia, part of the international La Salle network of universities, is recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the development of socially responsible leaders. Its programs in business, health sciences, and education have made significant contributions to regional and national progress in Mexico.

Universidad Latina de América (UNLA), a leading private institution in Morelia, is known for its innovation, and dedication to forming globally competent professionals. With a strong emphasis on community engagement and internationalization, UNLA has established itself as a catalyst for educational and social transformation in Mexico.

Dr. Benitez joined Governor Phil Murphy, state officials, and business leaders in a series of engagements with Mexican government representatives, educators, and industry stakeholders. Discussions centered on expanding opportunities for economic growth, cultural exchange, and collaboration across higher education institutions.

“Education serves as a bridge between nations and as a driver of equitable development,” Dr. Benitez added. “Through these partnerships, Saint Peter’s continues to advance its mission to educate individuals who are globally aware, socially conscious, and prepared to lead in an interconnected world.”

The Governor’s Economic Mission to Mexico underscores New Jersey’s strong relationship with Mexico and its shared commitment to expanding cooperation in commerce, culture, and education.
