The Nursing Program Receives Full Accreditation

Jersey City, N.J. – Saint Peter’s College today announced it is has received full accreditation from the New Jersey Board of Nursing for its four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program. The program is also fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

“There is a shortage of nurses across the country and this is a trend that is predicted to continue,” said Marylou Yam, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs at Saint Peter’s College. “We are pleased that the state has recognized our efforts to help support the need for more professionals in this field. The B.S.N program provides our students with both the academic and clinical foundation needed to be leaders in the healthcare arena.”

“The B.S.N. program provides a sound educational platform that prepares our students for the rigors of nursing in an increasingly demanding healthcare field,” said Ann Tritak, Ed.D., R.N., dean of nursing at Saint Peter’s College. “Through a combination of classroom and clinical learning, coupled with the College’s philosophy of cura personalis, or care for the whole person, our students are prepared to make a difference in patient care.”

The program has grown significantly since its inception in 2006 and now enrolls more than 200 students. It provides students with both classroom and clinical knowledge such as hands-on experiences at local hospitals, healthcare agencies and clinics. These clinical experiences, which begin in the second year of study, include ob/gyn, mental health, pediatrics, medical-surgical and community health. At the end of their four-years, students are prepared to take the NCLEX-RN examination.
