Four Saint Peter’s College students participated in the Campus Ministry Leadership Institute (CMLI) hosted at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana from June 10 – 16. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops sponsored the program. Twenty teams from across the country attended.
Campus Ministry Director Mary Sue Callan-Farley and students Milton Bravo of Plainfield, NJ; Dwayne Paul of Lowell, MA; Deirdre Power of West Hartford, CT; and Jolevette Mitchell of Brooklyn, NY participated in the week-long training.
“Our students took full advantage of this intensive and dynamic opportunity,” said Callan-Farley. “Already leaders, they learned some new techniques for planning and implementation and prioritized their goals which are to grow, encourage, and inform a compassionate and engaged Catholic worshipping community.”
CMLI assists campus ministry leaders and students in planning new campus ministry programs, activities and events at Catholic colleges, universities and Newman Catholic Centers. It is the only national leadership institute staffed by both campus ministers and student leaders. At the conference, Saint Peter’s students discussed and examined the challenges of Catholic campus ministry. They developed leadership skills and a project plan to address these issues on the Saint Peter’s College campus.
Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City. The College has a branch campus for adults in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and also offers courses at various corporate sites at the Jersey City waterfront and in South Amboy, NJ.
