Retired NYPD Officer Will Share His Personal Reflections of 9/11

Jersey City, NJ — New York Police Department Lieutenant David Nadel has a perspective on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Towers that few have. The 36-year veteran of the NYPD was among the many law enforcement officers and public safety officials who responded to the South Tower when it collapsed. Despite the ensuing barrage of debris that rained down upon him, Lt. Nadel, who later learned that he lost numerous close friends and colleagues in the tragedy, was able to free himself from the rubble and participate in the ensuing rescue operation. Lt. Nadel will share his thoughts on the events of 9/11 on Wednesday, March 31 as the featured speaker at Saint Peter’s College’s fourth annual Stephen D. Doyle Criminal Justice Symposium Series. His presentations at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Pope Lecture Hall are free and open to the public. Call 201-915-9271 for more information. The conference is named in honor of Stephen D. Doyle, a Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who was instrumental in the development of the Criminal Justice Major at Saint Peter’s. “We are honored that Lt. Nadel has agreed to share his personal reflections with the College community,” said Dr. Hank Brightman, the Coordinator of the College’s Criminal Justice program. “This is the first time that this presentation has been made available outside of the law enforcement community.” Lt. Nadel, who retired from the NYPD in August 2002, currently serves as Senior Vice President, Special Services, for Gold Leaf Security Inc. He previously served in a variety of roles within the NYPD, including undercover operations. He also served as the Commanding Officer of the Police Commissioner’s Liaison Unit. At a noon luncheon, Lt. Nadel, will also be formally inducted as an honorary member into the college’s Delta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma-the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. The eleven new student members of the Chapter will join him in this ceremony. Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey.
