January 27, 2003– Jersey City, NJ– Nationally-known speaker J-Glenn Murray, S.J., who appears often at college campuses, will visit Saint Peter’s College on February 2-3 as part of the Jersey City school’s Black History Month celebration. Father Murray, director of the Office for Pastoral Liturgy for the Diocese of Cleveland, will speak to theology classes and speak at two masses, Sunday, February 2 at 9 p.m. and the following day at Noon in the College’s Chapel. Both masses are open to the public. He will speak about African-American spirituality and also use his campus visit to inspire youth and adults to open themselves to faith and spirituality. The College\u2019s Campus Ministry and Minority Affairs offices are sponsoring Father Murray\u2019s visit to Saint Peter\u2019s. Father Murray was ordained in 1979 and holds a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in liturgy from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, Calif. He has also pursued studies in preaching at the Aquinas Institute at Saint Louis University and liturgy at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. In 1987 and 1997, Fr. Murray was the liturgical coordinator for the National Black Catholic Congress held in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, MD, respectively, as well as liturgical consultant for the Congress held in New Orleans in 1992. He was the principal drafter of Plenty Good Room: the Spirit and Truth of African American Worship, a document from the Bishops’ Committee on the Liturgy and the Black Catholic Secretariat. At one time, he was the editor of a bi-monthly African American liturgical newsletter. In addition to his Diocesan duties and intense workshop schedule, he teaches periodically at St. Mary’s Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio and the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley in the areas of liturgy, culture and preaching.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
