Google Women TechMakers Conference and Technology Forum

studentsThe Ignite Institute of Saint Peter’s University hosted the Google Women TechMakers conference and technology forum on Sunday, March 22nd. The event was produced by Propel Media Group and NJ Women TechMakers and sponsored by GNEC and GDG North Jersey. Keynote speaker, CK Kerley, a renowned speaker on technology and digital media, wowed the audience with a lively discussion on the The Smart Revolution: How the Internet of Things (IoT) will shape our Lives, our Work—and our World.

Lucy He, a software engineer in Social Impact at Google in NYC, conducted a hands-on Code Lab, where attendees had the opportunity to build their own Polymer “element”. Other contributors and sponsors included Akisia Grigsby of Open JC and Code for JC, RaiserBlade, a marketing and branding firm, and Rising Tide Capital, Ignite’s partner organization and nationally-recognized nonprofit.

One of featured groups at the event was a middle-school STEM team from PS#28 in Jersey City. Nine 8th graders, including several who just won the Lexus Eco-Challenge National Competition with $30,000 in scholarship awards, were inspired to be among so many women leaders in the technology field and learn more about the future of Tech.

Several Saint Peter’s University students volunteered and helped make the event a success. Thanks to Jonathan Gomez, Matea Samardzik, Fequiere William, Kayla Ramos, Anica Bustamante, Nick Brown and Arlene Ganess for their efforts.
