Professor Talks Tolkien at DragonCon 2015

Professor Constance Wagner, director of the writing program, spoke on several panels at the Tolkien track at this year’s DragonCon, a gathering of fantasy and science fiction fans as well as writers, artists and scholars. Wagner’s discussion topics at different talks, which spread over the Labor Day weekend, covered the evolution of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing process for The Lord of the Rings. Her discussions also focused on the nature of sacrificial heroism in Middle-earth. Her book-in-progress, The War Within: Frodo as Sacrificial Hero, is forthcoming from Oloris Books.
