About Dr. Kirton
Dr. Kirton has worked in health care for more than 30 years as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, administrator and executive. Professionally, he has dedicated his career to caring for persons with HIV/AIDS disease as a nurse practitioner. He has published two textbooks on the topic of HIV/AIDS Nursing and has published more than 50 journal articles, textbook chapters and monographs on this subject. Dr. Kirton is the former president of the national association of Nurses in AIDS Care and has traveled nationally and internationally promoting excellence in care for individuals with HIV/AIDS.
He is a seasoned educator and has held faculty appointments at College of New Rochelle, New York University and Saint Peter’s University. Dr. Kirton is a graduate of Lehman College (BSN), New York University (M.A.), Saint Peter’s University (MBA). He holds a doctorate in nursing practice from Case Western University (DNP) where he studied power and adherence to medication in patients taking antiretroviral therapies.
