SAINT PETER'S UNIVERSITY SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION 1872-2022

History of Saint Peter’s and Sesquicentennial Timeline

An important goal of the Sesquicentennial is to recognize and reflect on the historic milestones of Saint Peter’s University in order to deepen the knowledge of, and pride in, its rich history, traditions and educational impact. To contribute to this goal the University created an annotated digital historical timeline with photographs and images. The interactive timeline highlights major events, people and contexts for the many historical changes – and traditions! – since 1872.

The University Library has updated its digital repository with historical publications and digitized copies of Yearbooks from 1936-2019. Several magazine issues highlight milestone moments for Saint Peter’s University.

The University has also undertaken an Oral History Project to collect and preserve the personal and institutional memories and voices of people in the history of Saint Peter’s University. During the Sesquicentennial Year we will unveil the student-conducted oral histories featuring alumni and alumnae and current faculty, administrators and staff. These oral histories will add to the collection created during the 125th anniversary commemoration.

Sesquicentennial Timeline

The Sesquicentennial Timeline provides a panoramic view of the key people and events in the University’s 150 year history. Featuring photographs, bibliographic references and links to other resources, the annotated timeline takes readers into the history of Saint Peter’s as far back as 1786 through to the sesquicentennial year.
