Data Experts from IBM, ISO, Pfizer, Quanttus, The Weather Channel and UPS Join Advisory Board

Jersey City, N.J. – July 22, 2014 – Saint Peter’s University today announced the creation of the University’s Data Science Advisory Board. In 2013, Saint Peter’s launched a master’s program in data science with a concentration in business analytics. The Data Science Advisory Board exists to advise, assist, support and advocate for this graduate program. Members are volunteers who share an expert knowledge and will serve as a sounding board for senior University executives as a body that can inspire change.

The members of the Board include Ray Chiu ’86, former vice president of software development at ISO; Mark Hilbush, vice president of corporate repositories and architecture portfolio at UPS; Gery Menegaz, IT executive architect for IBM; John Quinn, vice president of health value analytics and development for Pfizer Inc.; Jason Sroka, director of analytics for Quanttus; and Paul Walsh, vice president of weather analytics for The Weather Channel.

“The demand for data scientists continues to increase, but the dynamic and evolving nature of the field requires the collaboration of experts across a variety of industries,” said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s University. “We are very pleased that this group of accomplished professionals has signed on to be a part of the University’s Data Science Advisory Board. The members of the Board have the ideal experience and knowledge to help our University develop the optimal data science program. Our students will certainly benefit from their expertise, both while enrolled in the program and after graduation.”

The Data Science Advisory Board will provide general guidance and advice relevant to industry trends surrounding big data and business intelligence. Its members will review and make changes to the data science curriculum, when appropriate and will also develop internship and career opportunities for University students and graduates.

The data science degree program is a unique program, which integrates statistics, research methods, computer science and data-based business management to extract knowledge to drive decision-making. The University will prepare graduates from around the world for careers as predictive modelers and data mining engineers and analysts in data-driven industries such as marketing, finance, banking and healthcare, among others.
