Saint Peter’s University Establishes Concentration in Professional Sales

Jersey City, N.J. – Saint Peter’s University today announced a concentration in professional sales within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program. The program is the only concentration of its kind geared specifically for adults in the state of New Jersey, offered in an online executive format with limited in-class Saturday meetings. Given the anticipated growth of sales positions in the coming years, Saint Peter’s developed the concentration to give students the opportunity to earn the academic credentials that will differentiate them from other job applicants for professional sales positions.

“Sales professionals need to be proficient in a wide variety of subject areas in order to be successful,” said Elizabeth Kane, dean of the school of professional and continuing studies and director of the Englewood Cliffs campus for Saint Peter’s University. “Marketing, communication and business are all important areas of study, but most importantly, through a liberal arts education, Saint Peter’s can equip students with the knowledge, values and skills that foster creative thinking, critical thinking and ethical leadership, which are at the heart of a successful career in professional sales.”

The curriculum of the program consists of the liberal arts core, business core and courses specifically designed for the specialty concentration in sales. The liberal arts education gives students a solid foundation in communication, research, technological literacy and more. The combination of the business core and the professional sales concentration will enable students to acquire a knowledge base in management, marketing, consumer behavior, forecasting, and ethics, while providing critical knowledge of sales theory, techniques, analysis and leadership skills.

New courses that fall within the concentration include Sales Forecasting and Marketing Research, Principles of Salesmanship, Professional Selling and a Seminar in Sales Management and Leadership. Graduates of the program will be qualified for careers in wholesale and manufacturing sales in a variety of industries including but not limited to pharmaceutical , insurance, advertising and financial services.

The 120 credit program will be offered through the School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS) at Saint Peter’s University. The program will be available in September 2013 on the Englewood Cliffs campus, a picturesque site that is located within minutes of the George Washington Bridge with convenient access to major highways.
