Two SPC Women’s Athletics Teams Earn 2008-2009 NCAA Public Recognition Awards

The Saint Peter’s College women’s tennis and women’s outdoor track and field teams have earned 2008-09 NCAA Public Recognition Awards. These awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with respect to their Academic Progress Rate (APR). This is the third consecutive year that the women’s tennis program has earned this award.

“I commend both our women’s tennis and women’s outdoor track and field student-athletes for this great achievement,” said Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott. “This recognition from the NCAA is indicative of Saint Peter’s College’s commitment to academic excellence for all student-athletes.”

The multi-year APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in a multi-year calculation which provides a clear picture of the academic standing of each sport. High-performing teams receiving public recognition awards this year posted APR scores ranging from 976 to a perfect 1,000, said NCAA President Myles Brand.
