Hudson Symphony Orchestra Debuts as SPC Symphony-in-Residence

Jersey City, NJ – On Saturday, October 25, 2008, The Hudson Symphony Orchestra premieres as the “Symphony-in-Residence” for Saint Peter’s College with an inaugural concert at 7:00 p.m. in The Roy Irving Theatre on the College’s Jersey City campus.

Dr. YiLi Lin, conductor of The Hudson Symphony Orchestra, conducts works by Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber.  The Hudson Symphony will also premiere Symphony No. 1: The Peacock, a piece composed by Kevin Cummines, artistic director for the Roy Irving Theatre and director of Saint Peter’s Aidan C. McMullen Chorale.

The partnership between Saint Peter’s and The Hudson Symphony provides concert and performance opportunities for the College community, as well as the community at large. It also creates a center for cultural programming, information and activities. As the Symphony-in-Residence at Saint Peter’s, The Hudson Symphony Orchestra provides two annual concerts at the College, one per semester.

Saint Peter’s students have the opportunity to perform in the orchestra under Conductor Lin’s direction, and earn credits as part of a degree program. Pre-concert lectures given by Saint Peter’s faculty members correspond with the current academic curriculum.

Additionally, select Saint Peter’s College students can attain internships in marketing, fundraising or other areas within orchestra operations. The partnership also fosters outreach to surrounding high schools in order to promote music education.

Admission to the performance is free for all Saint Peter’s students and staff, with a fee of $20.00 for the general public and $10.00 for seniors and children.
