Saint Peter’s College to Sponsor Focus the Nation

Jersey City – Saint Peter’s College  will be sponsoring a national teach-in about the environmental solution to the climate crisis entitled Focus the Nation Day on January 31, 2008. This national teach-in involve more than 1,200 colleges and high schools. Saint Peter’s College  is organizing this teach-in in conjunction with Focus the Nation, www.focusthenation.org, a national global warming activism organization. The purpose of the teach-in is to spread awareness about the climate crisis in preparation for a crucial year of elections. Focus the Nation argues the need to “cap” CO2 emissions at the federal level and invest mightily in clean energy solutions each year.

At 10:00 a.m. a Focus the Nation Faculty Panel will look at the Multi-Academic Approaches to the Climate Crisis. This will be held at the College’s McIntyre Lounge in Dinneen Hall.

At 11:00 a.m. Jersey City Mayor Jeremiah Healy will be speaking on the climate crisis and his vision for a sustainable Jersey City. Michael Manzo, former State Assemblyman, and a Board Member of the Hudson Regional Health Commission, will speak and fielded questions. Manzo is an environmental activist who will address the climate crisis at the federal level, which is a key goal of Focus the Nation.

As a pre-curser to the event, at 8 pm on January 30, 2008, a National Web cast entitled The 2% Solution will take place in Gannon Room 1.  The discussion will focus on a 2% solution of cutting back national greenhouse gases and the political “will” that is necessary for this to happen.
