Students earn prizes at 2006 Guarini Center Oratorical Contest at Saint Peter’s College

Jersey City, NJ (April 26, 2006) — High schools students from the tri-state area competed for nearly $20,000 in prize money in the Guarini Center for Governmental Affairs Fifth Annual Oratorical Contest at Saint Peter’s College on April 22. Students from public and private high schools debated the topic “What American Leader Has Made the Greatest Contribution to Our Nation?”

The winners of the 2006 Oratorical Contest were:

First prize – Ryan Jacobs of Ramapo High School
Second prize- Hezekiah Griggs, III of Passaic High School
Third prize – Cindy Jordano of Ridge High School
Fourth prize – Lauren del Valle of Mother Seton Regional High School
Fifth prize – Kelly Powell of Mother Seton Regional High School
Sixth prize – Landon Woodson of Passaic High School

Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City. The College has a branch campus for adults in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and also offers courses at various corporate sites at the Jersey City waterfront and in South Amboy, NJ.
