Three Saint Peter’s College Professor Appointed Grants as Durant Scholars

April 17, 2002– Three Saint Peter’s College Professor Appointed Grants as Durant Scholars

Jersey City, NJ – Three Saint Peter’s College professors will each receive $5,000 grants from the College’s Durant Scholars Program for Innovative Teaching in the Liberal Arts and Sciences. The three will utilize the money to develop creative changes in their College courses and then disseminate the results to colleagues in higher education.

Dr. Brian Hopkins (Jersey City, NJ), an Assistant Professor of Mathematics, was awarded a grant for his Finite Mathematics II course. Dr. Kathleen Monahan (Rutherford, NJ), a Professor of English, will utilize the grant for her Seminar in Literature: Prose and Fiction. Dr. Katherine Safford-Ramus (Point Pleasant, NJ), an Assistant Professor of Mathematics, will utilize the funding to support her Elementary Calculus II course.

“The Durant Scholars program recognizes our strong teaching faculty and their commitment to provide leadership in higher education by exploring innovative ways to teach the liberal arts and sciences,” said Saint Peter’s Academic Vice President Dr. Alexandra Gregory.

The Durant Scholars Program for Innovative Teaching in the Liberal Arts and Sciences, named for Will and Ariel Durant, identifies and supports innovative teaching approaches that will significantly enhance student learning outcomes in courses that are integral components of the core curriculum.
