Alicia D’Amato, director of CELAC, and Andrew Sansone, director of the Families for Literacy program, recently accompanied a group of Families for Literacy students to PATH’s Positive Train Control Center (PTCC) in Jersey City, where they toured the PTCC and learned about PATH’s operations and service to the community.

CELAC Director Alicia D’Amato and Families for Literacy Director Andrew Sansone presented their research titled “Hispanic Generation 1.5 College Student Perspectives on Code-Switching in Writing Assignments” at the 27th Conference on Spanish in the US at Cleveland State University on April 5.
On April 10th, a group of CELAC students went to the Newark Museum and “La Cocina” restaurant.
Professor Natalia Dunina and Professor Alicia D’Amato recently presented at the TESOL Conference in Chicago. Their poster session was titled, “Embracing Multilingualism in a Generation 1.5 Program.”
The Families for Literacy collaborative has continued to grow, with 50 families currently served and five ESL classes provided by CELAC. Pictured above, a cultural event celebrating this program was held on Saturday, January 27 at New City Kids.

CELAC has tutoring available for undergraduate bilingual students who need help with their writing. Sessions are available on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and from noon-1:00 p.m. on the third floor of the library.
