Our Department, located on the Third Floor of Loyola Hall, has an excellent library of American, British, and World Literature students can access as a supplement to the University Library’s holdings. Our Conference Room is a frequent gathering place for student club meetings, individual student-faculty tutorial sessions, as well as for a number of our upper-division, seminar course offerings.

Resources

The English Club sponsors English-related events like Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movie nights, May Day Celebration and Oktoberfest, theater outings and other cultural activities. These gatherings bring the club and many students and members of the university community together. English Club celebrates all new and old authors and shares knowledge of new novels, movies based on books, and comics. An integral part of English Club are the multiple fandoms that club members enjoy discussing and incorporating into events and meetings.

The Pavan promotes the ideals of literature by providing students with a recognized means of expression. We welcome submissions of original poetry and prose, as well as visual art–from students, faculty and staff of Saint Peter’s University. Each edition is designed by the members of the spring semester Graphic Arts class, in consultation with the editorial board.

Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society. A member of the Association of College Honor Societies, it was founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University. There are over 750 Chapters located in Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States. Saint Peter’s University has had a Chapter of the Society since 1987.

The Writer’s Edge is an online publication featuring noteworthy essays written by students from all levels of Composition. Meant to showcase the art and craft of essay writing here at Saint Peter’s University, new pieces are selected for inclusion each academic year from work done specifically as classwork. In addition, prize winners of the yearly Common Reader Essay Contest (part of the First Year Experience) are also presented herein. At Michaelmas, from the featured pieces, one student author’s work is honored with the Marcos Spinelli Award for Excellence in Writing.
